The Queen Victoria Seamen’s Rest (QVSR) is located in Poplar in the East End of London. Providing accommodation and welfare support to over 170 active and retired seafarers, veterans of the Armed Forces and other men in need, QVSR seeks to support each resident to achieve lifestyle and personal development goals whether this is simple companionship, the development of leisure interests, training and employment opportunities or a move to more independent living.
QVSR offers 173 single bedrooms, with en-suite bathroom, on a bed and breakfast basis. Our other facilities include a modern restaurant, evening coffee shop, satellite TV lounges, Wi-Fi, activity centre, gym, Chapel, ‘multi-faith’ or ‘quiet’ room, laundry and garden.
QVSR’s Welfare Team will assist residents with benefit applications and access to individual grants as well as providing support with medical and emotional issues through signposting to appropriate organisations.
Our staff and volunteers oversee a varied programme of leisure activities such as bingo, film nights and quizzes as well as sports such as snooker, darts, football, badminton and table tennis.
QVSR aims to provide a foundation through which residents can maintain their independence and live as part of a community.
Our work also extends along the River Thames to the Ports of Tilbury & DP World London Gateway in Essex where we manage the seafarers’ centres, working in partnership with the German Seamen’s Mission, Apostleship of the Sea, Mission to Seafarers and Sailors Society to provide port based services and pastoral support to active seafarers.
