Start Point Modernisation Project
Start Point Lighthouse Visitor Centre will close from 23rd September 2018 to allow for modernisation works to be undertaken. The project will replace the existing rotating optic with two self-contained flashing LED lanterns. These lanterns use LED technology to produce light that is then focused through a circular optic into a ‘disc’. This disc shines in all directions at once and the LED’s are switched on and off to produce the required ‘flash’. These lanterns are extremely efficient and once installed, should require very little maintenance.
During the modernisation project the Fog Signal, or Hazard Warning Signal as it is now called, will be replaced. New battery systems will also be introduced, meaning the diesel generator will no longer be required and will therefore be removed.
Upon completion of this project, the Visitor Centre will re-open to the public.
