The Greenwich Lightvessel will be familiar to listeners of the Shipping Forecast on BBC Radio 4 as it houses data used by the Meterological Office which helps to bring the daily weather forecast.
In addition, our Planning Centre in Harwich can monitor and control the lights, fog signals, RACONs, AIS (when operational), engine (where applicable), position monitoring, collision / bilge indications and battery voltages.
All lightvessels report into the Planning Centre every 12 hours or whenever there is a change of state at the station. The Planning Centre can also request an update from the station.
The Lightvessel itself marks the English Channel Traffic Separation zone.
