As part of London International Shipping Week 2023, Trinity House hosted a demonstration of its safety at sea and charitable services on board THV Galatea on Wednesday 13 September.

The evening featured displays and demonstrations of various elements of Trinity House's work as a General Lighthouse Authority to provide almost 600 aids to navigation for the benefit of all mariners, as well as a look at the future of aids to navigation and how we manage the issue of GPS vulnerability.

Attendees also had an opportunity to learn about Trinity House's work as one of the UK's largest self-funded maritime charities, spending £5m annually on the provision of cadet training schemes, welfare provision for retired mariners and educational programmes.

Trinity House moored THV Galatea alongside HMS Belfast in the Pool of London, offering a rare opportunity for visitors to look inside this fascinating ship.

Trinity House's Deputy Master and Chief Executive Captain Ian McNaught said that "Shipping week is a great opportunity for us to be a part of the story we tell about the vitality of the UK's maritime infrastructure, and especially the contribution made by those flying the red ensign. I hope you'll be able to come aboard and find out what we do to help make overseas trade such a success story in the UK."

THV Galatea is one of Trinity House's multi-function support vessels, designed to carry out marine operations as part of our duty as the General Lighthouse Authority for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar.
