Lighthouse Photography Competition

Their stunning coastal locations and the romanticism that surrounds them make lighthouses a popular subject for photographers of all ages and abilities. Trinity House owns some of the most famous lighthouses in the world.

Every year Trinity House runs a photographic competition in order to select images for the ‘Lighthouses’ calendar, produced in association with leading calendar producer J Salmon Ltd.

The 2011 Competition

Judged by TV presenter Rory McGrath, the 12 winners were honoured in June 2011 at a presentation at our Tower Hill Headquarters.

In previous years the competition has brought in excellent entries ensuring that the judging panel, which has been chaired by Alan Titchmarsh, Griff Rhys Jones, Tony Robinson, Libby Purves and Dan Snow had their work cut out in deciding the best shot. The 2012 competition panel was chaired by comedian Rory McGrath and the 2013 panel will be headed by Martin Clunes. The resulting calendar is available to purchase here.

The overall winner of the competition receives a short stay in one of the beautiful lighthouse holiday cottages let in conjunction with Rural Retreats.
