| 3.7.2 | AREA 2 - MULL OF KINTYRE TO ARDNAMURCHAN |
| 3.7.2.1 | This region is one of islands, narrows and sea-lochs and is one in which strong tidal streams (up to 7.5 knots) and poor weather conditions are prevalent. As well as coastal merchant traffic, there are several ferry services and the area is very popular with leisure craft of all types. The region contains the ports of Oban and Fort William, the latter serving as the south-western entrance to the Caledonian Canal. Leisure traffic in particular has increased in recent years. |
| 3.7.2.2 | 3.7.2.2 The region is well-served with AtoN, both fixed and floating. There are several recommended changes to AtoN in the region, two for increases in range (Dunollie and Rubha A Chruidh) and one for a reduction in range (Ruvaal). Five minor amendments to sectors are also proposed. It is also intended to discontinue the Fog Signals at Ardnamurchan and Skerryvore. |
| 3.7.2.3 | Of the numerous buoys in the region, proposals are made to transfer four to local lighthouse authorities, and add four new stations. |
| 3.7.2.4 | It is intended to discontinue two existing beacons and light a further two at Branra Rocks, Appin, and Small Isles, Jura. |
