North Foreland | Kent

Established in 1499, North Foreland Lighthouse marks the Southerly entrance to the River Thames and warns mariners of the treacherous Margate Roads. North Foreland was the last manned lighthouse in the United Kingdom when it was converted to automatic operation in November 1998.

Location

North Foreland is located 1.2 miles north of Broadstairs on the B2052 coastal road, close to Joss Bay.

Parking

Parking is available in public roads close to the Lighthouse. There is also a car park at Joss Bay.

Safety

A minimum height of 1 metre is required for entry to the lighthouse. Anyone suffering from vertigo, heart or respiratory conditions is advised not to undertake a tour.
