The 2012 Lighthouse Photography Competition
Enter our popular lighthouse photography competition and your image could be in our 2012 calendar
Trinity House is once again running a photography competition to find 12 images for its popular lighthouse calendar.
In previous years the competition has brought in many excellent entries ensuring that the judging panel, which in the past has been chaired by Alan Titchmarsh, Griff Rhys Jones, Tony Robinson, Libby Purves and Dan Snow.
Their stunning coastal locations and the romanticism that surrounds the buildings make lighthouses a popular subject for photographers of all ages and abilities. The excellent entries submitted for the previous competitions have resulted in beautiful calendars for Trinity House.
Dan Snow, Head Judge for the most recent competition commented: "My Dad used to make me peer through binoculars at distant lighthouses as a small child because my eyes were keener than his. It was my first real contribution to navigating the ship and it made me immensely proud. Today, I pass those same lights, blinking with unchanging certainty and it makes me feel so secure but also a little ephemeral. They sat on rocks and headlands well before I was born and I know they will endure long after I am gone."
Sir Jeremy de Halpert, executive chairman of Trinity House and a member of the judging panel, said, “We have been extremely pleased with the number of excellent entries we have received over the years and the high standard this has brought to our calendars.”
12 winners will have their entry reproduced as part of the 2012 lighthouse calendar. The shot deemed to be the best overall will also recieve a stay in one of the lighthouse holiday cottages operated in conjunction with Rural Retreats.
